We developed novel approach toward design and synthesis of a polymeric chromophore–catalyst assembly. Chromophore-catalyst assembly is deposited on a semiconductor via the Layer-by-Layer (LbL) self-assembly method to construct a photoanode for photodriven water oxidation applications.
Illumination of the polychromophore/the Ru-based water oxidation catalyst modified semiconductor electrodes in an aqueous electrolyte (left, ACS Energy Lett. 2016, 1, 339−343) and mixture of chromophores and catalysts on single polymer backbone allow study of intra- and intermolecular electron transfer processes (right, ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces 2017, 9, 19529).
